To mark the return of our Shop4Crumlin campaign, we asked the Irish public to tell us about why they laugh. From the types of jokes they find funniest to the people who make them laugh the most, the importance of humour in a relationship to the impact laughter has on their mood.
In our survey of over 1,200 Irish adults, 33% said their children make them laugh the most, followed by their partners and spouses (25%) and parents (13%). Looking at some of people’s favourite jokes, 42% said ‘offbeat jokes’ are the best, while a quarter said they enjoy a good practical joke the most.
We also asked who some of the nation’s favourite comedians are, with David O’Doherty coming out on top with 29% of the vote. Joanne McNally came in second place (18%) and Aisling Bea took third spot (17%).
The research further revealed that over 91% of respondents rate their partners ability to make them laugh as very important and laughter has shown to be an important part of our overall wellness with 46% of people saying it helps to relieve stress and 21% saying it improves their mood.
One4all’s Shop4Crumlin campaign takes place between 11th to 19th September and the aim of this week-long charity shopping event is to give the gift of giggle to the young patients at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. During this week, every time a One4all Gift Card is spent in-store or online with any of our 11,000 retail partners, we donate 50c to Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin’s Giggle Fund at CHI at Crumlin, a fund dedicated to bringing joy to the young patients at CHI at Crumlin and to brightening their lives, one giggle at a time. New Look, Argos, River Island, Life Style Sports and Currys PC World have teamed up with One4all for the week and have pledged to donate an additional 50c, bringing the total donation to €1 every time a One4all is spent with them in-store or online.
So, if you’ve got a One4all Gift Card in your wallet, dig it out from September 11th – 19th and treat yourself while also helping to make the days a little happier for the brave children at the hospital as well as their families.
