This cobweb cake recipe is great for a party and whether you want to make a cake from scratch or decorate one you bought; it’s an easy way to put a spooky twist on a chocolate cake.

Ingredients required:
- 250g unsalted butter, softened, plus extra for greasing
- 250g caster sugar
- 4 free-range eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp black gel food colour (optional)
- 50g cocoa powder
- 200g self-raising flour
- 200g dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa solids), chopped into small pieces
- 200ml double cream
