An Taibhdhearc is the national Irish language theatre and as such stages Irish language productions as well as hosting a wide variety of productions staged in English. Founded in 1928, the theatre has seen many changes since it first opened its doors. The aims and ideas of the theatre founders remain at the heart of An Taibhdhearc’s vision: to be a hub for Irish language drama and to inspire new Irish language work.
Highlights in the theatre’s calendar every year include groundbreaking pieces staged as part of the Galway International Arts Festival and the Christmas Pantomime which delights children and adults alike every year.
The newly-renovated theatre is an excellent venue for drama, music, film, comedy, conferences, seminars, workshops and launches. It boasts excellent sound and lighting facilities, 148 seats and a full bar and wine licence. The box office is open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 12pm-5pm and on performance days.
