Cliona’s Foundation provides nationwide direct financial assistance to families to help with the multiple non-medical costs of caringfor their seriously sick child.
Cliona’s Foundation was founded by Brendan &Terry Ring following the death of their own daughter Cliona at 15 following8 years treatment for an inoperable brain tumour.
During thistime they met many parents struggling financially with the hidden costsof looking aftertheir sick child and saw first-hand the enormous tollit took on these families.
Right now, there are 4,000children battling with a lifelimiting illness in Ireland. 400 of thesewill die thisyear.
Parents of these childrenare away from home for long periodsof time whilethey care for their child- paying for accommodation, food, transport, having to take timeout of work, pay childminders to look after their other children and also haveto purchase specialized equipment.
Itis estimated that it costsan additional €10,000per annum to care for a childwith a life limiting illness.
For some families it is the harsh realitythat they cannotafford to be by theirsick child’s bedsidewhile in hospital due to the associated costs.
Cliona’s Foundation believes no family should suffer financially when caring for a seriously ill child
