As the academic year draws to a close, we decided to survey 1,156 British parents to find out just how important teachers are. We found that, while they believe their kids’ teachers are amongst the most important influences in their lives, they wouldn’t want to swap places with them!

84% of those who took the survey admitted that, knowing the lengths their children’s teachers go to in their jobs, they wouldn’t ever want to pursue a career in teaching themselves.

72% of parents simply feel teachers have too much work to do, 69% feel that their salaries do not reflect the amount of hard work the job requires, and 82% believe they’re under too much pressure.

The data also found that 71% of parents believe teachers have more patience with their children than they do!

The vast majority - 86% - believe their children’s teachers do a fantastic job. Parents also consider teachers to be some of the most influential people in their children’s lives, behind only themselves and grandparents.

75% are so grateful to their kids’ teachers they give them presents to show their gratitude at the end of the school year, spending on average £16.50 per teacher.
