You might want to re-think that toy gift…. The competition for top spot in the uncle and auntie stakes can be fierce. Kids will always have a favourite, and one of the best ways for them to pick is in the quality of their birthday and Christmas presents.
Unfortunately, it seems most gifts go unopened – our research shows that a shocking £210 million is being wasted every year on unwanted presents.
The average child in the UK has 51 toys, but only plays with 5 of them regularly. In fact, though kids today are more likely to play games on gadgets, toys are still the go-to present for Christmas and birthdays.
With duplicate gifts and passing fads, the average child receives at least three unwanted presents every year.
This means that in spite of your heroic efforts researching trends and braving queues, there’s a good chance that your present will be donated, re-gifted or even thrown away.
So how can you make sure your next gift is a guaranteed bin-dodger?
Over half of the people we spoke to had an answer to that question, and we’d be inclined to agree with them: let them choose their own present!
You can pick up a One4all Gift Card in your local Post Office, or if you want to make it a bit special you can create a customised card with your own picture on it.
We’d suggest a picture of their favourite cartoon character, or even the clever person who gave them a gift card, which they can use in Argos, Hamleys, Toys R Us or elsewhere.
They can also use the gift card in multiple shops or purchase one great present they’ve picked out themselves.
