We polled the nation to find out which celebrity weddings were the favourite among Brits and the research revealed that royal weddings topped the list.

With their five year wedding anniversary on the 29th of April, it was interesting to see that Will and Kate’s big day was the UK’s favourite. This was followed by that of Charles and Diana, another royal wedding favoured over glamorous celebrity nuptials like Kimye’s and Brangelina’s.

So how has our love for the royal couple influenced our own wedding planning habits?

British couples planning their big day are more greatly influenced by regal, traditional weddings than the glitz and glamour of celebrity weddings

  • 70% of married couples have mimicked Kate and Wills’ honeymoon, shunning jetting off on a post-marital holiday immediately after being wed, in favour of a delayed break.

Despite Kate and Wills’ wedding on 29th April 2011 being the first royal wedding of the social media age, the happy couple weren’t shy about banning guests from live tweeting or uploading pictures to social media to help maintain privacy from inside the royal affair.

Has this influenced what we think of social media at our own weddings?

  • 55% of British couples say they wouldn’t want guests uploading images to social media on the day of the wedding.

  • 28% of married couples said they would have preferred guests to have waited for the professional photographs to be released before posting their own to social media.

The research reveals that British couples are following suit of the royal wedding, opting to maintain privacy on their special day. So other than Kate and Will, how did other celebrity couples fair in the wedding round up?

  • Prince Charles and Diana’s wedding came in second place, followed by the marriage of Hollywood royalty, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

  • A-list King and Queen David and Victoria Beckham’s nuptials made it to fourth place while king of the court Andy Murray’s wedding to now-wife Kim Sears came in fifth.

  • The marriage between reality royalty Kim Kardashian and her rapper husband Kanye West failed to make the top 10 – coming in 12th place.
